And now a Pinterest-inspired project that didn't cause me to lose my mind

When we first moved into this place this is what our kitchen wall looked like:

We would offer to repaint it back to this color when we leave, but I'm not sure if Benjamin Moore still carries or can color-match Kind-of-Peestained-Looking White.

Yes, I probably should have asked our property manager to paint (or at least reimburse us for paint and materials), but after quibbling with them over lead paint issues a zillion times and the crappy $50 white microwave they begrudgingly provided after I convinced them that the property had been advertised as having one, I just didn't have it in me. Plus, by doing it ourselves I didn't have to get their approval for our super-awesome chalkboard wall!

It actually wasn't that hard to do, but since I still wasn't sure if there was lead paint on this wall in the spirit of neurotic overkill I put two layers of ChildGuard lead protection coating on it followed by three coats of chalkboard paint. That should do the trick!

The weird thing is that unless I have the chalk out kids don't seem to notice that we have a chalkboard wall. They just walk right by it and go foraging for toys (which is great, since Tate never plays with them).

One warning, though...chalkboard walls are messy! I made a bunch of rags out of the parts of the t-shirts I didn't use for the t-shirt rug, and that helps keep things from getting too crazy. In addition to being fun, the chalkboard has been super-helpful for keeping track of to-do and grocery lists.  Basically all the crazy going on in my head each day now makes it to the wall in some sort of organized fashion. We just have to make sure to erase anything weird before guests come over.
